With its charming canals, flower-filled banks, adorable little bridges, and beautiful houses with colorful facades, Annecy truly lives up to its nickname of Savoyard Venice. What a pleasure to stroll along its canals or stroll through its pleasant pedestrian streets!
In the heart of the old town, the Palais de l'Île, a former prison and courthouse, now houses the Annecy History Museum. Near this iconic 12th-century building, Rue Sainte-Claire, lined with pretty arcaded houses, is also a must-see. Overlooking the town, the castle-museum, the former residence of the Counts of Geneva and the Dukes of Genevois-Nemours, is dedicated to archaeology, ethnology, art, history, and Alpine lakes.
To round off your visit in style, there's nothing like a stroll along the shores of the marvelous Lake Annecy. A must-see! The Jardins de l'Europe, the Pont des Amours spanning the Vassé Canal, the Avenue d'Albigny lined with plane trees, and the Champ de Mars are all wonderful spots perfect for relaxing. To better explore the lake and its surrounding mountains, cruises aboard speedboats, as well as pedal boat and small motorboat rentals, are available to visitors.
